The PlayStation 3 version of the game was developed by DICE, while the Xbox 360 version was handled by EA Digital Illusions CE. Ports of the game were also released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is set in an alternate reality where China, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom and Iran are at war. An expansion pack named "End Game" was released in October 2012 for Battlefield 3 on all platforms except for Mac OS X. It features the single player campaign "Five", as well as new maps and weapons. Battlefield 3 is set in an alternate reality where China, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom and Iran are at war. The game takes place during a fictional conflict known as "The Second Persian Gulf War". The story follows a squad of American Marines engaged in a covert military operation to take out high-value targets inside Tehran. The squad's commanding officer is Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Richards. The main characters in the single-player campaign are: Multiplayer in Battlefield 3 features three different factions, the U.S., China and Russia and two (possibly three) different "races": human and drivable vehicles like tanks and helicopters. Every faction shares the same weapons aside from their unique ones, such as sniper rifles or shotguns. The weapons that are unique to each faction share the same functions but have different attachments that may change their performance (such as flashlights for nightvision scopes) The Roles include Sniper, Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon roles. An interesting note is that while some of these roles are similar to other first person shooters, some of them have some differences. For example, the Recon role in Battlefield 3 is the only role with the ability to call in for air support. Both single-player and multiplayer are played from an isometric perspective. Textures are pre-rendered making the game run at a smoother frame rate than most other games of its genre. The game places an emphasis on squad-based gameplay, where players take turns playing different roles, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. For example, Assault Troopers are more heavily armed than other infantry members but cannot provide cover fire if they are killed. The game features over 130 weapons, which can be used by all factions, including heavy weapons such as missiles and cluster bombs. cfa1e77820
